If anyone is chomping at the bit to start something, the library just put up a page about Primary Sources that you can browse:http://www.library.wustl.edu/research/usered/primary.html
Maybe you will find something that you want to explore in Writing 1.
This is brand new--so let me know if you see any problems.
Also, there's a Facebook group called Writing 1 Support.

Hey! I finally got around to joining this community even though I applied early decision, haha.
Location: New Jersey
Activities/interests: I spend a lot of time working at a doctor's office. It's pretty hard work, holding down screaming babies and frantically drawing out those vaccinations. I'm also starting a waitressing job next week [!!!]. And normal stuff, like hanging out with my friends and obsessively checking out my e-mail. =D
Music: I really, honestly, will listen to anything once.
Movies: Ther Terminal, Zoolander, Prime, Pleasantville. And sappy movies that make me cry. AI, The Notebook.
Books: Bookends, Lamb, The Ordinary White Boy, Wicked, East of Eden, the comics, if that counts =X
Television: I'm not ashamed that I'm a reality TV addict. Haha
Anything else you want to share: This was a pretty lame introduction, but I am SO excited for August to roll around. Oh and facebook me
so I can get to know you all since I spend like 24 hours a day on there, haha.

Wash U email accounts
So I signed onto my webSTAC account, and I can see my email address and all, but how do I access it? I'm in ArtSci - are they going to send me information in the mail on how to use my email account, or am I just missing something?
I'm not going to lie: I mostly want to know so I can finally make a college facebook. I'm getting impatient.
EDIT: I just got thee officiaal email stuff in the mail. So everyone who hasn't gotten it yet should be getting it soon. Current Mood: confused

I've heard from several of my friends that they've received their WashU e-mail addresses. Am I one of the few who hasn't, or are my friends just special because they did ED and I did RD? Who else has received an e-mail address?

Has anayone else tried taking their placement exams and had trouble? I tried to take the calculus one before i had to sell back my textbook and i didn't have the right id number or something like that?

Location: Naples, FL
Activities/interests: music, movies, running, coffee, the beach, food, Taco Bell, hanging out with my friends. I spend most of my time working as either a secretary to an engineering firm or an indentured slave/hostess at Shula's Steakhouse, and the rest of my time is pretty much devoted to my friends.
Music: The Beatles (of course), Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, The Shins, The Strokes, RHCP, Oasis, The Black Keys, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith, Jack Johnson, The Format, Brand New, Third Eye Blind, Ben Kweller, Ben Folds...I listen to just about everything, from rock to rap to classical...I'm pretty relaxed about music
Movies: The Life Aquatic, Closer, Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Princess Bride, The Motorcycle Diaries, Amelie, Lost in Translation, Animal House, Zoolander...basically anything funny or interesting.
Books: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Crime and Punishment, The Cherry Orchard, Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice, Shadow of the Wind, Naked Pictures of Famous People...I'm pretty picky about what I read, but if I finish it, it must be good (with the exception of Daisy Miller and Billy Budd).
Television: I'm a Comedy Central addict. My favorite shows are The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. Besides that, I watch Grey's Anatomy, House, and The Office (both versions)
Anything else you want to share: I really just got a livejournal so that I could see pictures on my friend's journal, so I don't know how often I'll be on here. But I'm excited for Wash U in August, and I figure that should count for something... Current Mood: blah

I was looking at my schedule for the Art-Sci weekend and it says I have to bring a copy of the course listings with me. However, I haven't recieved the course listing yet. Did I miss the mailing or has everyone else gotten it already?

Name: Emily Greenseth
Location: Portland, Oregon
Screen name: schmobo13
Activities/interests: School-related things include photography, math, science, art in general (basically anything except history); non-school related things include track and field, coffee shops, late nights, and, of course, my friends.
Music: Don't try and get between my and my music. Trust me, it's a bad idea ;-) A few bands include: Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Guster, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Goo Goo Dolls, Minus the Bear, Rocky Votolato, The Shins, Spoon, The Beatles, etc.
Movies: My favorite genre is romantic comedy, so anything that falls into that category and has good acting is a-okay by me.
Books: I'm not a huge reader, but if you hand me something and tell me it's good, I'll try and find the time to read it.
Television: The fun part of my day usually begins at about 6pm and may last anywhere from six to ten hours, so I'm not usually home when most of the good TV shows are on. When I'm doing homework, though, I always have The Cosby Show or Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on in the background :-)
Anything else you want to share: Right now my feeling about WashU is more anticipation/nervousness than excitement. I have two days of high school left; perhaps the reality of college will set in a bit more once that's over with. My decision about WashU was very spontaneous, especially since it's pretty far away. However, I visited the school in April and loved the campus/atmosphere. Hope to see you all there! By the way, I'm majoring in Civil Engineering.
Also, I'm not sure if this will be important, but my cell # is 503-866-1106

And I probably should know the answer to this but I am just verifying. Do you register for classes at orientation or is it over the summer if you do one of the ArtSci weekends (for those in ArtSci)? Also, is anyone signed up or thinking of doing the weekends?
Just curious because I realized I have no clue and my friends going to different colleges do.

Who is doing FSAP, and what class are you wanting to take?
I hope I'll get to do history, since I'm definitely not a math person, nor was I such a fan of AP Bio this year.

Gaah. I like too many things because there is much to do in LA. I tried to make the lists short for you guys. Anyways, going to Wash U was actually a pretty spontaneous act on my part and I'm falling deeper in love with it every day. I'm really scared about leaving because I have the bestest friends in the world but I think that moving 2000 miles away will be an experience all in iteself. I mean, logistically, it'll be hell and exciting, simultaneously. About myself, I'm a commuter student who spends nearly 4 hours on the road each day because, as everybody knows, Los Angeles is America's parking lot. I love to go to exhibits and shows (I'm seeing Klimt and STOMP!), watch the sun set at the beach, and eat at In&Out... you East coast and midwest people are really missing out on some good hamburgers.Potential major:
International Relations, Art History, or make my own major (Peace and Conflict Studies) Current Mood: mellow
Location: Mendota, Illinois
Screen name: starwarschick13
Activities/interests: I am involved in band, choir, and scholastic bowl at my school. I am very involved in band and I participate in all aspects of our band (jazz, concert, pep, marching, and one time a marchichi band). I also am involved in drama productions but I mainly work backstage. I run cross country, but I was the last girl runner on the team, so it is clearly not one of the most important aspects of my life.
Music: I am a typical band nerd. I like classical music. I mainly listen to showtunes and movie soundtracks. My favorite band is Harry and the Potters...yeah they play songs about Harry Potter. I also enjoy Irish Rock, such as flogging molly.
Movies: Star Wars!! The Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, Love Actually, any Hugh Grant movie. I like some of the Harry Potter movies but not as much as the books. Also Disney Movies and the musical movie of Jesus Chirst Superstar (made in 2000) Also, Chronicles of narnia. I like a lot of movies.
TV: CSI is my favorite t.v. show. I also like CSI:NY but not as much as the original, House, and 24. Those are the big ones.
Books: HARRY POTTER! Chronicles of Narnia, Little Women, The Sound and the Fury. I read a lot of Science Fiction and some Non-Fiction Historical books
Anything else you want to share: I am very excited about attending Washington University in the fall! I plan on being a History major and involved in the music program. Feel free to drop me a line.
|Sunday, May 7th, 2006|
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Screen name: badgrammarhurts
Activities/interests: I spend a lot of my time trying to figure out what I do with my time. I spend quite a bit of time online. I also spend a lot of time reading. I tend to read fantasy, sci-fi, humour, etc, but I'm beginning to read more and more classical literature outside of the classroom. I do theatre, but I am not a theatre geek. I'm the business manager for my school's shows, which means I get the huge burden of being sane.
Music: I'm into a lot of different things. Unfortunately, I am not a music person and therefore have no idea to what I listen - it just comes on my iTunes and I know whether or not I like it. Generally, though, my interests range from the more mainstream rock, punk rock, etc. to classical to french opera to whatever my odd musically inclined friends are listening to.
Movies: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribean, um...?
TV: Grey's Anatomy (my obsession), Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, House.
Books: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett, The Handmaid's Tale, etc.
Anything else you want to share: I'm ridiculously excited (as I'm sure everyone is) to attend WashU in the Fall! I currently intend to be an English, Econ, and Spanish major, but I will probably change my mind once I get there. Feel free to contact me - it'd be great to have friends/acquaintances before arriving. Current Mood: ecstatic
|Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006|
Location: outside Boston
Screen name: stalkappella
Activities/interests: singing, acting, hanging out with friends most of whom act or sing, soccer, interaction with little children
Music: I'm a HUGE a cappella nut. That also means I like the stuff that a cappella is based on, so lots of Guster, Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, broadwya stuffs. Basically if I can sing along to it, I'll listen to it
Movies: Crash, The Princess Bride, The Wizard of Oz, Fever Pitch (gotta love watching that down the block from the stadium with a room fuill of red sox fans)Office Space
Books: I'm doing a senior project now on short stories, so basically any of those authors who no one has ever heard of, The DaVinci code, anything Agatha Christie, Great Gatsby...too many more
Television: Law and Order SVU, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives,
Anything else you want to share: I'm really excited about WashU? I meant to post earlier, but I've been swept up with end of year tests/papers before dropping physics and math at long last as well as play rehearsal for our spring show
Just a friendly reminder...
Please, if you join this community, make an introductory post! I think we have about 11 members but only about 6 have introduced themselves. The whole point of this LJ is to get to know our future classmates -- we don't want to miss anyone!

wear a shirt from your college day
Tomorrow is my last day of classes, and everyone in my grade is going to wear a shirt from the college they're going to. I have one official Wash U shirt, but instead of wearing it, my best friend and I made a shirt that says, "I'm going to WASH YOU." It's beaautiful. I'm sure good times will ensue.
